Tracker School News

Tom's Monthly Newsletter: July 2007

Hey Gang;

It’s summer so I’m going to keep this letter short and sweet.  The big news here is that for years you all have been asking for more “dirt time”, more specialty classes and workshops. Yet I am so tapped for time that I really didn’t think we could pull it off, but we found a way.

Starting this fall, I am going to open a new realm of workshops by hand-selecting visiting instructors and having them design courses that will teach you the very essence of the most vital Native and primitive skills.

I’ve started by asking Bill Kaczor to teach a “Bow Making Workshop” and a “Flint Knapping Workshop,” both in October.  Some of you know Bill, who has taken over 21 courses here at Tracker, and is a specialist in bow making, stone tool technologies, fire by friction, and basketry.  Bill is one of the only people I’ve ever met who I believe could have learned from Grandfather. He is tenaciously passionate about living the skills he knows so well, and he also happens to be an excellent instructor. If you have any interest in ever learning and exploring Bow Making or Flint Knapping, Bill is the teacher you want.

Some of the other Instructors I’ll be asking to share their talents and skills will include: Karen and Frank Sherwood, “Tofu” – who some of you might know as Matt Corradino, Malcolm Ringwalt, Jorge Brana, and of course my son, Tommy.  Between them, these folks have an incredible cache of knowledge and experience to share with you all. So keep an eye on the 2007/2008 schedules, and I think you’ll be happy with what we’re doing.

Other than that – it’s time for a short rest, than back to the Pines in just a couple of weeks.

Until then, All Good Medicine,
